Tiffany Ash Talks About Peculiar Musical Pairings

Tiffany Ash considers it an honor to work with Jacksonville, Florida’s premier organizations, to inspire community members to become the best versions of themselves. Many people do not know the significant role that music plays in communities, schools, and homes. It is why Tiffany Ash believes that it is equally essential to bring more attention to the organizations dedicated to giving beautiful and inspirational music to the community.

The Jacksonville Symphony recently presented “Mozart’s Jupiter,” a program that featured two contrasting selections. Tiffany Ash believes that this peculiar pairing in the local symphony’s latest Florida Blue Masterworks Series concert tested their skills and expanded their range of musical styles this year.

“The Confession of Isobel Gowdie” was first on the program. It is a powerful and challenging composition by contemporary Scottish composer James MacMillan. This piece depicts the events surrounding the interrogation and execution of an accused witch in post-Reformation Scotland.

The second half featured Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 in C Major, K. 551, “Jupiter.” This piece is one of the most popular and well-loved classical staples because it was Mozart’s final symphony and arguably his best composition.

Tiffany Ash believes that the pairing can be a challenge for both the orchestra and the audience, primarily because it consists of two very contrasting pieces. It demands great precision, focus, and some challenging techniques that do not allow even the slightest complacency from any musician.

However, the Jacksonville Symphony impressed Tiffany Ash when they presented the two pieces with all the ardor and conviction necessary to pull it off. The symphony rose to the challenge well, which gave them a rare opportunity to expand their wings during a season that many characterize by a general trend towards more conservative offerings. Tiffany Ash believes that the entire concert significantly demonstrated the range and repertoire the orchestra can present, even under current quarantine restrictions.
